CHC Inc’s and WinStar Farm’s Sainthood drew post five during Tuesday’s Kentucky Derby (G1) post position draw at Churchill Downs.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Sainthood was late-running second, after a troubled trip in the Jeff Ruby S. (G3) in his most recent outing, which was also his stakes debut.
Pletcher has given the Derby call to Corey Lanerie, who has won several riding titles at Churchill Downs.
Sainthood didn’t start at two, and was beaten a head in his Jan. 9 unveiling before breaking his maiden on Feb. 13 in his two-turn debut.
CHC and WinStar teamed up to win the Derby and Triple Crown in 2018 with Justify, while Pletcher and WinStar both got their first Derby wins with Super Saver in 2010.
The Derby is race 12 on Saturday at 6:57 pm ET, and will be televised live on NBC.
