WinStar Farm announced 2018 stud fees for its 22-stallion roster on Thursday, again headed by Pioneerof the Nile who will stand for a fee of $110,000 S&N this upcoming breeding season.
Over the course of the last 12 months, WinStar stallions have made as big of a mark as ever on our industry, especially on the biggest stages,” said Elliott Walden, WinStar President & CEO. “On the track, our stallions have been responsible for three Breeders’ Cup winners and another Kentucky Derby winner, among other Grade 1s that everyone wants to win. In the sales ring, WinStar stallions continue to reward breeders unlike any other stud farm, with three active sires in the top 10 in North America by 2017 yearling average, and seven in the Top 30.
We’ve also had terrific response from breeders since launching our WinStar Incentive Network, or ‘WIN’, program nearly a year ago. The tremendous racing success since last year’s Breeders’ Cup has earned over 60 of our breeders more than $1.6 million in ‘WIN’ awards. The present and future at WinStar are both extremely bright, and our mission is to continue to offer breeders stallions of the highest quality, and reward those breeders for their success,” he added.
After siring the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years with American Pharoah in 2015, Pioneerof the Nile followed up with his second champion 2-year-old colt from just four crops to race when Classic Empire was crowned after a victory in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1). In 2017, Pioneerof the Nile ranks No. 4 among North American sires at the yearling sales with a $345,511 avg. from his best-bred crop to date, marking his second consecutive year in the top five.
Perennial top sire Speightstown also enjoyed Breeders’ Cup success a year ago, siring Dirt Mile (G1) winner Tamarkuz, and remains a leading commercial sire in North America. The Gone West stallion is responsible for 11.3% black type winners from lifetime starters, ranking second only behind Distorted Humor among North American stallions with a minimum of 500 starters. In 2017, Speightstown ranks No. 7 by yearling average ($248,307) among active North American sires. His fee will remain at $100,000 S&N.
Bodemeister, North America’s No. 1 Second Crop Sire in 2017, will see his fee move to $40,000 S&N after his first crop of 3-year-olds this year included Kentucky Derby (G1) & Florida Derby (G1) hero Always Dreaming, Woody Stephens S. (G2) winner & G1-placed American Anthem, among others. WinStar is also home to North America’s No. 1 Freshman Sire in 2017, Overanalyze. His fee has been set at $15,000 S&N, but is subject to change pending Breeders’ Cup results. Overanalyze is already the sire of 23 winners to date from his first crop of 2-year-olds.
