WinStar Farm announced 2012 fees for its expanded roster of stallions, led by North America’s Leading Sire Distorted Humor who will stand for $100,000 stands and nurses and will breed an exclusive book of only 100 mares this upcoming season.
Distorted Humor is enjoying another banner year in 2011, with 17 stakes winners to date and progeny earnings approaching $10 million. Among his stakes winners is the recent Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) champion Drosselmeyer.
WinStar, which acquired promising young stallions Artie Schiller, Bellamy Road, Summer Bird and U S Ranger earlier this year, will also add Grade 1 winner and two-time track record-setter Sidney’s Candy, who will stand his first season in 2012 for a fee of $15,000 stands and nurses. A decision on the future of Drosselmeyer will be determined and announced soon.
“We couldn’t be more proud of the WinStar stallions and the success enjoyed across the board in 2011,” said Elliott Walden, WinStar President & CEO. “We set out with the goal of growing our 2012 roster with promising young stallions that give breeders a range of quality options. And despite the popularity of many of our stallions, we will continue to be sensitive to the economics of the game, and to our breeders who depend on our product to make a profit. Therefore, we have chosen to leave all but Bellamy Road the same for 2012, and we’re excited to get to work on serving our breeders again for the upcoming season.”
