Securitiz made his first stakes start of 2017 a winning one on Saturday with gritty neck victory in the $100,000 Seattle Slew S. over Belmont Park’s main track.
The 5-year-old son of Tiznow, who was stakes-placed in 2016, is a half-brother to a trio of stakes winners, including Matron S. (G2) heroine Millionreasonswhy.
Tiznow’s 2017 stakes winners are led by Hopeful S. (G1) champ Sporting Chance and the multiple graded stakes-winning 3-year-old Irap, both of who are targeting Breeders’ Cup starts in early November.
With just four horses in the Seattle Slew, the field was tightly bunched for the run down the backstretch. Securitiz began to lose ground on the turn, but once he straightened for home, the dark bay began to re-rally under Manny Franco, catching Backsideofthemoon just a few jumps from the wire to get the 1 1/8-miles in 1:50.19.
The winner is owned by Centennial Farms and is now 3-6-3 in 17 starts, with earnings of $268,476. He was bred in Kentucky by Tom Evans, Tenlane Farm and Oratis.
