More Than Ready’s Grade 1 stakes winner Uni (GB) rallied from last to easily take down top prize in Saturday’s $100,000 Perfect Sting Stakes at Belmont Park, cruising to a measured one-length victory under Joel Rosario in her first start since capturing last year’s Matriarch Stakes (G1) at Del Mar.
The win in the Perfect Sting marked Uni’s fifth consecutive stakes score. She was undefeated in four starts last season, all stakes, taking the Plenty of Grace, the Fasig-Tipton De La Rose, and the Noble Damsel Stakes (G3) prior to capping off her year with a score in the Matriarch.
“She went easy most of the way and then toward home she took me for a ride,” said Rosario on Uni’s effort in the Perfect Sting. “She finished well. She looked the best among the field on paper and showed it today.”
Trained by Chad Brown for owners Michael Dubb, Head of Plains Partners, Robert LaPenta and Bethlehem Stables, Uni was bred in Great Britain by Haras D’ Etreham. She is produced from the Dansili (GB) mare Unaided (GB). Uni is now a winner in eight of 15 lifetime starts with earnings of $947,880.
