Unbridled Humor tops G3 Noble Damsel

Stalking a early fast pace and then pulling away to a clear lead suited Unbridled Humor to a tee as the 4-year-old daughter of Distorted Humor led for the majority of the race to tally her first graded stakes win in the $100,000 Noble Damsel S. (G3) Sept. 18 at Belmont Park. She previously won the listed $60,000 Memories of Silver S. at Aqueduct in Nov., 2010.

Unbridled Humor dueled early with Twilight Memory, then took over from that one just after a quarter mile. She pulled away going into the far turn after a half-mile in :46.51, opening up by four lengths coming into the stretch. Jockey Ramon Dominguez kept her to the task in the late stages, but no one mounted a real threat, and he wrapped up late as she finished the one mile in 1:34.09 on a firm turf course.

The win was the fifth victory overall from six starts for Unbridled Humor, who has earned $177,520 for her owner/breeder Live Oak Plantation.

Dominguez was aboard the 4-year-old filly for the first time in her career. “I just took a long hold. She was eager, but within reason,” he said. “Turning for home, she switched leads on her own and she picked it up pretty nicely. I’m very happy with her. She is pretty versatile; you can do pretty much what you want with her.”

“She was so well behaved today, and Ramon did an excellent job,” said Heather Craig, assistant to winning trainer Graham Motion. “We were a little concerned that she was that close to the lead and that they went that quick, but it seems as long as you keep her happy, regardless of how slow or quick she goes, she runs well. She’s an amazing filly.”

Distorted Humor now has 17 stakes winners in 2011, tops among all North American sires.
