More Than Ready’s 2-year-old filly American Giant showed her affinity for the turf once again Saturday at Gulfstream Park West, driving to a two-length victory in the $75,000 Juvenile Fillies Turf, her third win in as many starts on the grass.
More Than Ready’s runners have won nine stakes and earned in excess of $9.5 million to date this year, led by the brilliant mare Uni (GB), who beat males in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1), and 4-year-old Rushing Fall, a dual Grade 1 winner of the Just A Game S. and Jenny Wiley S.
American Giant took up a spot about four lengths from the front for the first five furlongs, then began to close in on the leaders, ultimately passing Song River with about a sixteenth to run, then held off stablemate Our Little Jewel to secure the win.
Owned and bred by Live Oak Plantation, American Giant upped her earnings to $100,760. She is the first foal out of Giant Crystal, who is a half-sister to Wood Memorial S. (G1) winner Gemologist.
