After skipping the May 6 Kentucky Derby (G1), Tiznow’s graded stakes-winning colt Term of Art will make his next start in the second leg of the Triple Crown in Saturday’s $1.5 million Preakness (G1) at Pimlico.
Owned by Calumet Farm and trained by Doug O’Neill, Term of Art won last November’s Cecil B. De Mille S. (G3) at Del Mar and finished third to the undefeated Mastery in the San Felipe S. (G2) in March.
Term of Art drew post 7 in the 10-horse field for Saturday’s 1 3/16-mile contest and will be ridden by Jose Ortiz.
Term of Art is certainly bred to handle the classic distances. Besides his champion sire, his second dam Tomisue’s Delight was a multiple Grade 1 winner around two turns, while his third dam, Prospectors Delite, is the dam of Horse of the Year and leading sire Mineshaft.
Tiznow’s 2017 stakes horses include Blue Grass S. (G2) winner Irap, and stakes winners Modern, Smokin Now, and Enstone. The WinStar stallion also had the highest-priced 2-year-old at auction this year, a $2.45 million colt at the OBS April sale.
Saturday’s Preakness, race 13, will run at approximately 6:48 p.m. ET.
