Dennis’ Moment nearly broke the seven-furlong track record in his maiden special weight win Saturday at Ellis Park, drawing off to officially win by 19 1/4-lengths in 1:21.95 (VIDEO).
The 2-year-old Tiznow colt was obviously named a TDN Rising Star for the superlative effort, making him the 15th horse by his sire to earn the designation.
Very well regarded in his June 23 debut at Churchill Downs, Dennis’ Moment lost his rider soon after the start and never had a chance. Made the heavy favorite from post 11 on Saturday, the bay colt broke very sharply and set a quick pace. Up about two lengths after a half-mile in :45.84, he distanced himself from the field the rest of the trip to win with complete authority.
Owned by Dennis Albaugh’s Albaugh Family Stables LLC, Dennis’ Moment was bred in Kentucky by Tolo Thoroughbreds and sold to Albaugh for $400,000 at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearlings sale. He is the first foal out of the Elusive Quality mare Transplendid, who is a half-sister to Miss Preakness S. (G3) winner Time’s Mistress.
