Tiz Breathtaking’s thrilling stretch run tallied the 2-year-old daughter her first stakes win in Saturday’s
$125,000 Mazarine S. (G3) at Woodbine.
The bay juvenile, who had won the $125,000 Shady Well S. last time out at Woodbine, has now won three of four lifetime starts and earned $179,530 for owner Windhaven Farms Inc. She is one of Tiznow’s nine stakes winners this year.
Like she had done in her three prior starts, Tiz Breathtaking settled in the back of the field soon after the start, and it wasn’t until there was a quarter-mile to run that she started her rally. Going four-wide into the stretch, the bay filly hit the front just a few strides before the wire to defeat Carnival Colors (GB) by a head in 1:45.28 for the 1 1/16-miles.
“I had no choice anymore. I was in that position and I said, ‘I’m going to wait here,’” said winning rider Eurico da Silva. “I have a lot of faith in this filly because when you move, she sprints, she sprints home. When I moved in the turn, she just broke from there.”
Tiz Breathtaking was bred by William Graham as is a half-sister to stakes winner Matador.
