Take Charge Milady scored her first black type win in Saturday’s $300,000 Martha Washington S. at Oaklawn Park and simultaneously earned 20 points on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks (G1) series, which determines starters for the May 2 race at Churchill Downs.
The 3-year-old daughter of Take Charge Indy is the first stakes winner of 2025 for her sire and is now atop the Oaks points standings.
After breaking her maiden by four lengths at Oaklawn on Jan. 5, Take Charge Milady improved on that excellent performance in Saturday’s 1 1/16-mile race. She tracked in fourth through a half-mile before launching her bid going into the final turn. Three-wide around the bend, she took over from odds-on favorite Quietside entering the homestretch, then powered away to a 5 ¾-length win in 1:46.81 on a fast track.
The winner is owned by James Ball, Magdalena Racing (Sherri McPeek) and Kenneth Rhodes and trained by Kenny McPeek.
Bred by Merribelle Stable, Take Charge Milady is the third foal to race out of Price too High, who has a 2-year-old of 2025 by Audible.
