Leading Fourth-Crop sire Constitution got his newest stakes winner on Saturday at Gulfstream Park when Steal Sunshine went from last to first in the stretch to win the $75,000 Carry Back S. by 2 ¼-lengths.
Steal Sunshine, who was making his first stakes start since the April 2 Florida Derby (G1), was out of the picture for most of Saturday’s seven-furlong race. With King Cab setting torrid fractions of :21.79 and :43.84, Steal Sunshine was far off this pace. With no choice but to go around horse, Steal Sunshine came six-wide into the stretch and was full of run, rolling past the field in the final furlong and winning going away in 1:22.77 on a fast track.
Steal Sunshine, who broke his maiden by 10 lengths the day after Christmas, is now 3-1-1 in eight starts and has earned $114,750 for Carrie Brogden and Little Red Feather Racing.
The winner was bred in Kentucky by Machmer Hall and is the first foal out of Warm Sunshine, who is a half-sister to Gulfstream Park Derby winner Reveron.
Steal Sunshine, 3, is the seventh stakes winner this year for Constitution, whose 21 stakes horses and 12 graded stakes horses both lead the Fourth-Crop list.
