Victim of Love earned her first graded stakes win in the Vagrancy H. (G3) at Belmont Park, forging her way through a driving rainstorm to defeat Come Dancing by 1 3/4-lengths.
The 4-year-old filly was a two-time listed winner before Saturday’s score. She is Speightstown’s 55th lifetime graded winner and one of his five graded winners in 2020 alone. With more than $5.1 million in progeny earnings this year, Speightstown is ranked fourth on the General Sire list.
Victim of Love was off a beat slow in the 6 1/2-furlong Vagrancy, but quickly recovered to press Jakarta through a half-mile in :45.49. She took the lead for good just outside the quarter-pole and was very strong through the stretch to stop the clock in 1:16.27.
“She broke a little bit behind, but with a tap on the shoulder, she jumped right there on the bridle,” said winning rider Jose Lezcano. “When I asked her, she really took off. My filly kept going the whole way around and never stopped. She gave me everything she had.”
Victim of Love has a record of 5-2-2 from 15 outings, with earnings of $279,829. She is owned by Tommy Town Thoroughbreds and was bred in Kentucky by Daniel Burke.
