San Huberto (IRE) added to Speightstown’s stellar list of 2020 graded stakes winners with a half-length victory in the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier (G2) June 14 at Chantilly Racecourse in France.
The 4-year-old colt joins the likes of Charlatan, Mozu Superflare and Flagstaff, who have all collected graded wins this year. In addition, last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) winner Sharing was gallant second in the June 20 Coronation Cup (G1) as the prestigious Ascot meet in England.
San Huberto was third in last year’s $1 million Jockey Club Derby Inv. at Belmont Park, his only start outside of France. At a marathon 1 7/8-miles, the Vigier was his second start at the distance. Tucked in along the rail in third for nearly the entire trip, he swung out with about two furlongs to run, then passed Get Shirty and held off Call The Wind for the victory (VIDEO).
“We’ll now target Group 1 races, with the Melbourne Cup the definite long-term plan,” said winning trainer Fabrice Chappet. “He will most likely run twice beforehand, either twice in Europe before entering quarantine or once here and once in Australia.”
San Huberto was bred by .Gestut Zur Kuste AG. He is owned by Oti Management Pty LTD and now sports a record of 4-0-2 from nine starts, with earnings of $242,822.
