Speightstown’s Recepta sharp in $100,000 De La Rose S.

Recepta found a narrow opening in mid-stretch and shot through to win the $100,000 De La Rose S. by 2 ¼-lengths on Saturday at Saratoga. The 3-year-old daughter of Speightstown is now a two-time stakes winner of $261,200.

Recepta is Speightstown’s 20th black type horse of 2015. The WinStar stallion is once again in the top 10 on the General Sire list with $6.6 million in progeny earnings, led by millionaire and Grade 1 winner Force the Pass.

Recepta broke alertly, but with several foes intent on going to the lead, settled nicely along the rail as the field made their way around the first turn. John Velazquez urged his filly a little closer down the backstretch, maintaining his rail spot around the final bend. Looking for daylight in the stretch, Velazquez shifted Recepta off the fence to move between horses and to the lead with a furlong to run.

Once in the clear, Recepta was full of run and came home in hand to get the mile on the firm turf in a very good 1:34.02, less than a second off the track record.

Recepta, a half-sister to Maryland Sprint H. (G3) winner Taqarub, is out of Honor Bestowed, who is a half-sister to female turf champion millionaire Soaring Softly.
Recepta is co-owned by John Phillips, also her breeder (along with Hank Snowden), and Pam Gartin.
