Speightstown tops $8 million mark in 2012

Munnings Sister took the $80,000 Dream Supreme S. Sunday at Belmont Park for her second stakes win of 2012 and at the same time putting her sire over the $8 million mark in progeny earnings on the year.

Speightstown is one of only two sires to pass that milestone in 2012. The WinStar stallion has enjoyed a terrific first weekend of October, with Bridgetown capturing the $150,000 Woodford S. (G3) Friday at Keeneland and Sum of the Parts taking the $175,000 Phoenix S. (G2) Saturday at the same track.

After dueling with Fiftyfour Forever for six furlongs, Munnings Sister held off a late run from Hearts of Red for a half-length victory. Trained by Barclay Tagg, Munnings Sister ran the seven furlongs in 1:24.93.

Munnings Sister, who won the $56,800 California Wine S. in June, is now 4-0-1 in seven starts with earnings of $122,550. The Charles Fipke homebred 3-year-old filly is a full sister to Munnings, winner of a trio of Grade 2 events: the Woody Stephens S., Tom Fool H., and Gulfstream Park Sprint Championship S.
