Speightstown stakes win total reaches 37

Sum of the Parts’ front-running victory in the $75,000 Bonapaw S. Saturday at Fair Grounds gave his sire Speightstown a nation’s best 37 stakes wins (VIDEO). Speightstown’s 84 repeat winners in 2013 also tops the General Sire list.

Sum of the Parts, who captured the Phoenix H. (G3) at Keeneland in October, set all the pace in the grassy, 5 1/2-furlong Bonapaw. After a half-mile in :46.21 with a one-length lead, Rosie Napravnik gave 4-year-old his cue, and he sprinted clear to win handily by 2 3/4-lengths in 1:04.30 on the firm turf.

“Tom (winning trainer Amoss) told me he does his best work on the lead so that was the plan,” said Napravnik. “We were out there pretty quick so he’s all heart coming down the lane and all class as well.”

Sum of the Parts, owned by Klaravich Stables Inc. and William H. Lawrence, improved his mark to 7-2-0 in 17 starts, earning $761,543.
