Speightstown wrapped up the final day of Book 1 of the Keeneland September Yearling sale with stellar results, capped by an $825,000 colt. Through the first three days of the Sept. 9-22 auctions, the WinStar stallion has an average of $375,455 from 11 lots sold.
The $825,000 colt, which sold on Wednesday as hip No. 564, was consigned by Lane’s End, agent and purchased by Shadwell Estate Company. A chestnut like his sire, the Kentucky-bred is out of the American Oaks (G1) winner Nereid and is a half-brother to stakes winner Figarella’s Queen.
Shadwell has been very keen on Speightstown all three days, purchasing a total of five of his colts for $2,685,000. On day 1, they obtained hip No. 52, consigned by Bedouin Bloodstock, agent, for $575,000. Another chestnut, the colt is out of Ashland S. (G1) winner Rosalind. And on day 2 hip No. 279, the first foal out of the Unbridled’s Song mare Broadway Show went for $460,000
Speightstown had a total of 100 lots cataloged in the two-week sale, with 83 yet to go through the auction ring.
