Covenant rolled to a 6 ¾-length maiden special weight victory over a sloppy Saratoga racetrack on Monday afternoon in the second lifetime start for the 3-year-old daughter of Speightstown.
Bred and owned by WinStar Farm, Covenant earned a sparkling 89 Beyer Speed Figure and was named a TDN Rising Star following the stellar effort.
The winner covered the six furlongs in 1:12.20 and led the entire trip over the sealed surface (VIDEO).
“She’s a filly we’ve always thought a lot of,” WinStar president and CEO Elliott Walden told TDN. “She’s extremely well-balanced, very attractive. She trained very well before her first start and the race has very good form in it with Salty beating her. We’ve looked forward to getting her back to the races.”
Trained by Bill Mott, Covenant is out of the two-time stakes winner Flaming Heart and is a half-brother to WinStar stallion Commissioner and the Graded Stakes winner Laugh Track.
Covenant is Speightstown’s 11th lifetime TDN Rising Star, joining the likes of top-class stakes horses Reynaldothewizard, Speightster, Rock Fall, Fast Bullet, and Munnings.
