Speightstown filly sets track record in Italian Group 3

Farmah blitzed through 1,200 meters in a track record 1:08.20 in Capannelle’s Premio Carlo E Francesco Aloisi S. (G3) on Sunday, winning by six lengths to give the 3-year-old daughter of Speightstown her first second stakes victory of 2014.

Going over “heavy” ground on the straight turf course, Farmah was too much for her competition, racing along the rail for the first half-mile, then sprinting clear powerfully to win eased up under the wire.

“Farmah was impressive when she won her listed (stake, the Prix de Bonneval at Chantilly on Oct. 6), but has made another big step up,” said winning trainer Francois Rohaut. “(Owner) Sheikh Hamdan usually retires his fillies at the end of the 3-year-old season. I will try to convince him to change that rule, but that will be very difficult.”

Hamdan bred Farmah in Kentucky; she is out of his Group 1-winning mare Torrestrella, who he purchased for $1.3 million at the 2006 Keeneland Nov. sale.

Farmah now sports a mark of 4-3-1 in nine starts. She is one of 15 stakes winners this year for Speightstown, who once again ranks in the top 10 in several categories on the General Sire list.
