Carribean Caper left her foes far behind in the Fair Grounds stretch as she rolled to an eight-length maiden special weight win in her racing debut Saturday at Fair Grounds.
The 3-year-old Speightstown filly was named a TDN Rising Star following the blowout win, the first this year and 21st to garner the distinction in Speightstown’s storied stallion career.
Carribean Caper and Firingtothefront, another first-time starter, were head-to-head through the first half-mile, which went in :45.77, before the Al Stall, Jr. trainee began to assert herself. Pulling clear under a hand ride, she was up four lengths with a furlong to run and doubled up the margin at the finish to get the six furlongs in an excellent 1:09.88 (VIDEO) .
Carribean Caper was purchased by her owner Columbine Stable for $250,000 at the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling sale. She was bred by WinStar Farm and is the first foal out of the stakes-placed Checkupfromzneckup.
After finishing in the top-five on the 2020 General Sire list, Speightstown is off to an excellent start in 2021, with five stakes horses in the first six weeks of the year.
