Andiano a Firenze cruised to a 5 ½-length win in Friday’s $200,000 Funny Cide S. at Saratoga to give the well-related 2-year-old Speightstown colt his first stakes win.
The winner, who was the odds-on favorite in the 6 ½-furlong race, is a half-brother to $2.8 million earner Firenze Fire.
Andiamo a Firenze was widest of all as a trio of juveniles battled for the lead through a very fast quarter-mile in :21.29. He continued in the three path on the turn, taking the lead without being asked with about three furlongs to run. His momentum carried him wide into the stretch as he pulled away from the field with ease to finish up in 1:18.72 on a muddy surface.
Most recently third in the July 16 Sanford S. (G3) Andiamo a Firenze has won two of three starts and earned $172,250.
Andiamo a Firenze is a Mr Amore homebred trained by Kelly Breen. The dark bay colt is the latest of Speightstown’s eight stakes horses in 2022, topped by the Grade 1-winning duo of Shirl’s Speight and Switzerland.
