Speightstown had one of the top five lots during the first night of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Yearling sale, with hip No. 56 hammering for $950,000.
Consigned by Summerfield, agent for breeder Stonestreet, the dark bay colt was secured by Donato Lanni on behalf of SF Racing, Starlight Racing and Madaket.
The colt is the second foal out of the unraced Medaglia d’Oro mare Rainier, whose siblings stakes winners Laurie’s Rocket, Greeley’s Rocket, stakes-placed Wide Excellent, and the dam of multiple stakes winner Necker Island.
A perennial top-10 sire, Speightstown is currently sixth on the 2022 General Sire list with more than $8.1 million in progeny earnings. Among his top horses this year are Grade 1 winners Shirl’s Speight and Switzerland, and multiple Grade 2 winner Olympiad.
