The Keeneland 2-year-old sale always showcases some top juveniles on the cusp of their careers, and the, and one-day event on April 9 was no exception. A dark bay colt by Speightstown was one of the evening’s highlights, selling for the $560,000, the second-highest price of the sale.
The colt, cataloged as hip No. 144, was consigned by Kirkwood Stables, agent and purchased by Rick Porter’s Fox Hill Farm after a spirited flurry of bids.
Bred in Kentucky by Frederick Michael Allor, the colt is out of the stakes-placed mare Five Star Holding. She is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Sindy with an S and the Grade 1 placed colt Indian Winter.
The sale topped off a newsworthy seven days for Speightstown. His son Essence Hit Man was named Canada’s champion sprinter a week ago, then promptly followed up the award by winning the $150,000 Jacques Cartier S. at Woodbine on Saturday.
