Speightstown adds SW to 2011 tally

Poseidon’s Warrior was razor-sharp in his 6 1/4-length win in the $100,000 East Hanover S. July 30 at Penn National, becoming the sixth stakes winner of 2011 for his top 20 sire Speightstown. The 3-year-old dark bay colt got his second career stakes win in the Hanover; he won Monmouth Park’s $167,000 NATC Futurity last autumn.

Maryland-bred Poseidon’s Warrior was always prominent in the six furlong sprint. Second for the first quarter mile, he took over the top spot soon after. From that point, he increased his margin without being asked. The final time on the fast track was a very good 1:09.36, less than a second off the track record.

Poseidon’s Warrior was bred by Dark Hollow Farm and William Beatson and is now owned by Swilcan Stable LLC. His overall record stands at 4-1-1 from nine outings. He has earned $243,250.
