Bapak Chinta, a 2-year-old colt by Speightstown, remained undefeated and asserted himself as the frontrunner for champion juvenile sprinter in Europe with a smart victory in the Group 2 Norfolk S. at Royal Ascot on June 16th.
The speedy gray colt flashed good early pace before proving best over a large field of 21 juveniles in the five-furlong event at the famed Ascot meeting. Last month, Bapak Chinta made an impressive debut on May 13th at Hamilton, and he now owns a perfect 2-for-2 record with earnings of $45,816 Euros.
“I have a lot of faith in him. I’ve never sat on a two-year-old as sharp as him,” jockey Phillip Makin told the Racing Post. “I’ve had so much confidence in him and have been looking forward to today since he won at Hamilton.”
Out of the Maria’s Mon mare Suena Cay, Bapak Chinta was bred by E T Buckley, S Varney and A O’Donnell. He is campaigned by owner T A Rahman and trainer Kevin Ryan.
Like Makin, Ryan was also confident in his charge despite the softer turf course that Royal Ascot had presented all week.
“He does everything right, we were very confident going to Hamilton and he’s come here and we were confident beforehand,” said Ryan. “On breeding he’d want the top of the ground, but he’s overcome the ground – that’s what good horses do. It was tough for him on that ground but he’s a very very good horse. He does everything so easily.”
Bapak Chinta is the latest dynamic 2-year-old winner for Speightstown. Last month at Churchill Downs, Sum of the Parts overcame a slow break to turn in an eye-catching performance in his debut on May 14th at 4 ½ furlongs. Sum of the Parts won decisively and earned an 88 Beyer Speed Figure, marking the fastest Beyer earned by a juvenile so far in 2011.
