Door Buster found room turning for home to edge clear to a two-length score in the $75,000 Sylvia Bishop Memorial on Friday night at Charles Town Races.
The 3-year-old daughter of Speightster didn’t have the easiest of trips in the seven-furlong affair, but after a patient ride by Denis Araujo, she finally found clear running coming into the short stretch, then won deceptively easy after making her bid along the rail.
“She’s one of those fillies that really has no distance limitations,” trainer Ollie Figgins III said. “She really didn’t have the best of trips tonight. She was loaded but really had nowhere to go for most of the trip. Denis did a good job with her getting through there. Once he got through she had a lot left. She’s been good on dirt and she ran a good race on the turf.”
Door Buster has posted a solid 4-2-2 mark from 10 starts and has earned $158,125 for owner Jay Reese. The bay filly was bred by Catherine Jennings and Scott Mallory.
Speightster has been among the leaders on the Second-Crop sire list and is currently ranked third with nearly $2.4 million in progeny earnings, and is ranked first by wins with 67 to date.
