Sidney’s Candy filly romps in Del Mar unveiling

As her sire Sidney’s Candy did some six years ago, Sooner Time broke her maiden at Del Mar on July 23 in her career debut, taking 5 ½-furlong contest for 2-year-old fillies by 3 ¼-lengths.

Sooner Time is the first winner for Sidney’s Candy, who would go on to sparkle in such races as the Santa Anita Derby (G1), La Jolla H. (G2) and Fourstardave S. (G2) in a career that saw him win six stakes and earn over $1.1 million. His 2-year-olds at auction this season have brought up to $560,000, with his colts bringing an average of nearly 8 times his stud fee of $15,000.

Between horses early, Sooner Time took the lead on the turn and ran away from the field in upper stretch to come home a handy winner in 1:06.06 on the fast track.

The winner is out of Debit or Credit, a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Alke and also the dam of two-time stakes winner Red Hot Doll.  She was bred in Kentucky by White Fox Farm.
