The second and final day of the OBS March Sale of Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training brought plenty of highlights for Sidney’s Candy, whose first crop are 2-year-olds of 2015.
With a total of six horses selling during the March 17-18 auction, including five on the second day, Sidney’s Candy had a hammer price average of $168,667, more than 11 times his stud fee of $15,000.
Leading the way was hip No. 610, consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, and went to David Ingordo, for L.E.B., for $560,000. The chestnut colt, who worked an eighth in :10 1/5, is out of the stakes winner Broadway Hennessey, by Hennessy, who is a half-sister to the stakes winner Courageous Act.
Three other juveniles by Grade 1-winning millionaire brought six figure prices.
Woodford Thoroughbreds consigned hip No. 495, which went to Xavier Bloodstock and Hidden Brook Farm for $145,000. The colt is a half-brother to Honeybee S. (G3) winner Euphrosyne.
Jim and Susan Hill went to $130,000 for hip No. 425, a filly from the Kirkwood Stables consignment. The filly is a half-sister to Sanford S. (G3) winner Big Trouble.
Hip No. 299 was consigned by Robert Brewer and went to Susan Moulton for $100,000. The colt’s dam, Mystery at Sea, was stakes-placed at two and is a sister to no less than five stakes winners.
