Sidney’s Candy 2yo scores impressively on Laurel turf

Uncle Youdge bounded to a one length score in a maiden special weight turf affair Saturday at Laurel Park, giving his sire Sidney’s Candy his seventh winner from his first crop, with six of them coming in maiden special weights at top meets such as Del Mar, Belmont Park and Gulfstream Park.

Uncle Youdge, who was bred by WinStar Farm, came right out to the front at the break, but was soon joined by Devonson, who took over the top spot on the turn. Uncle Youdge fought right back and came into the stretch on top once again, then held off Not a Chance to win comfortably in 1:05.11 for the 5 ½-furlongs on the “good” turf.

Uncle Youdge is the first foal out of Orangeblackandgold, who is a sister to Grade 2 winners Rize and Lovely Rafaela.
