Speightstown’s Breeders’ Cup-winning filly Sharing showed her class once again in Friday’s $300,000 Edgewood S. (G2), holding off a late bid by Hendy Woods to score by 1 ¼ lengths.
With the winner’s share of $182,280, Sharing increased her earnings to $1,038,751 for owners Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Gainesway Stable, with a record of 5-1-1 from seven starts, including a victory in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1).
Sharing got a very good trip under Manny Franco. With In Good Spirits setting the pace, Sharing tracked in second for the first six furlongs. She took the lead in upper stretch then dug in gamely to secure the win.
Sharing covered the mile on a Matt Winn Turf Course rated as good in 1:36.87
“I can’t lie, I was pretty anxious about it because she was coming off a long trip and a long break. But she’s so classy, she makes us all look good I think,” said winning trainer Graham Motion. “She had a great work last weekend and Manny gave her a perfect ride. It couldn’t have set up any better quite honestly.”
Motion indicated that Sharing could make her next start in the QEII (G1) in early October at Keeneland.
Sharing is one of Speightstown’s seven graded stakes winners this year, while his progeny have now earned more than $8 million, second-most on this year’s General Sire list.
