Shadow Rock rallied under a well-timed ride from Deshawn Parker to take the Honor the Hero S. on Monday at Canterbury Park.
Stakes-placed earlier this year, Shadow Rock is Distorted Humor’s 139th lifetime stakes winner and one of his nine stakes horses in 2017.
After an alert break, Parker took Shadow Rock back off the lead from his four-wide position to take a spot near the rail. Around the turn, Shadow Rock was bottled up behind a trio of horses, but coming into the stretch, Parker took his mount four-wide again and forged to the lead, winning by nearly a length in :56.36 for the five furlongs on the firm turf.
“Everything just went perfect,” Parker said succinctly. “I couldn’t have drawn it up any better.”
Shadow Rock is trained by Mike Maker for Michael Hui and has earned $376,467. His dam Dream Time is a sister to multiple Grade 1 winners Tax Ruling and Finder’s Fee.
