It takes a superlative performance to earn a TDN Rising Star tag, but for the second time in just three days a daughter of Speightstown was awarded the designation.
Sly Roxy, a 2-year-old filly, made her debut Thursday at Saratoga and came away a 5 ½-length winner in a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight race over a sealed main track.
Sly Roxy’s win comes just a few days after the 3-year-old Speightstown filly Covenant broke her maiden by 6 ¾-lengths over the same surface to earned her Rising Star tag.
With Mermaid of Honor setting the early pace, Sly Roxy bided her time about a length behind the leader until Javier Castellano asked the bay filly for her best in upper stretch, when she bounded away to come home a convincing winner in 1:06.13.
Sly Roxy is the first foal out of Roxy Gap, a three-time graded stakes winner of close to $1 million who was Canada’s Champion Female Sprinter and Older Female of 2012. The winner was bred by Blue Heaven Farm LLC and is owned by George Yager.
