Second Graded SW of the day for Speightsown

Sheikh Hamdan’s Tamarkuz became the second Group winner of the day for Speightstown, when he charged to a four-length victory in the $200,000 Firebreak S. (G3) over a flat mile at Meydan Racecourse on Feb. 12.

Tamarkuz also became the 67th career stakes winner, fifth 2015 stakes winner for Champion Speightstown, whose 2015 progeny earnings already exceed $1,000,000.

In the Firebreak, Tamarkuz dictated the pace down the backstretch, and was in front by three parts of a length heading into the far turn. In a flash, under rider Paul Hanagan, the chestnut extended his lead by leaps and bounds, and was never seriously threatened en route to victory. Time for the mile over the dirt was 1:37.45.

Bred in Kentucky by John Gunther, Tamarkuz was sold to Shadwell Estates for $325,000 at the 2011 Keeneland September Sale, and races now for Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He has amassed a record of 11-5-2-0 and earnings of $245,444.

Speightstown has stood his entire career at WinStar, and has 110 stakes horses to his credit. He is standing the 2015 season for $80,000, live foal.
