Righteous Baby came from last to first in the final quarter-mile to break her maiden at first asking in a one-mile maiden special weight affair Dec. 19 at Mountaineer Park.
The 2-year-old filly is the 14th First-Crop winner for her sire, which is fourth-most for all freshman sires this year. He is also the leading freshman sire by percentage of winners from starters for the top-10 sires of winners.
Righteous Ruby’s debut began uneventfully as she dropped back to last soon after the start and was some 12 lengths from the lead at the half-way point. She began to pick up the pace with three furlongs to go and was in full flight by the time the field hit the stretch. She zoomed past Sweet Baytown with a furlong to go and hit the wire a two-length winner (VIDEO).
Bred in Kentucky by Nancy Puffer, Righteous Ruby is from the same family as Grade 1 winner Danasia.
