Punctuate a ‘Star’ in eye-opening debut

Punctuate, a 2-year-old colt by Distorted Humor out of the undefeated mare Peppers Pride, came from last in a field of 12 juveniles to win his first start by 1 ¾-lengths Saturday at Santa Anita Park (VIDEO).

Trained by Bob Baffert for Arnold Zetcher, Punctuate’s superb effort after an adventurous trip earned the bay colt a TDN Rising Star tag. Punctuate is Distorted Humor’s 20th lifetime Rising Star.

Punctuate was bred in Kentucky by Joe Allen and Michael Stinson. Zetcher was the winning bidder, at $300,000, for the colt at the 2013 Keeneland September Yearling sale. Peppers Pride gained notoriety in the mid 2000’s when she went a perfect 19-for-19 racing in New Mexico. She earned just over $1 million in her remarkable career.
