Bodemeister had his top yearling of 2017 on Wednesday at the Keeneland September sale when Shadwell Estate Co. went to $700,000 for the impeccably-bred colt by the WinStar stallion.
Bred by Winchell Thoroughbreds and consigned by Gainesway, hip No. 668 is out of Winchell’s multiple stakes winner Remit, who is a full sister to millionaire Taptiure and the stakes winner Retap.
“He is a very nice colt and we thought he would sell well, so we are happy with it,” Winchell said. “We knew he was very popular, so we knew he would bring a lot, but a lot sometimes means half of what it actually is. I love the family obviously and Bodemeister looks like he is doing great.”
Bodemeister also had a $280,000 colt sell to EQB, agent. Hip No. 698 was consigned by Dark Hollow Farm, agent, and is a full brother to O Dionysus, winner of this year’s Miracle Wood S., and a half-brother to stakes winner Joy.
Bodemeister is the leading Second-Crop sire of 2017, with Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Always Dreaming one of his five stakes winners.
Bodemeister has 51 individuals remaining in the auction, which runs through Sept. 23.
