Pirate’s Trove still undefeated after 2nd SW

Speightstown’s budding star Pirate’s Trove ran her record to a perfect 3-for-3 with an impressive score in Monday’s $111,800 Etobicoke S. at Woodbine.

With Zensational Bunny setting a swift pace, Florent Geroux kept Pirate’s Trove a few lengths back in fourth position, waiting for room to open up while tucked along the rail

Geroux found an opening coming into the stretch and swung off the rail to go by the pacesetter. Widening her margin to 4 ½-lengths on the wire, Pirate’s Trove covered six furlongs in 1:09.32, slightly more than a second off the track record.

“She was much better this time than last time out,” said Geroux. “She’s getting better and better and I’m looking forward to the future.”

“Even if I had waited a bit longer it would have been fine,” the rider continued. “When she made the lead, she waited a bit on the other horses.

“You can put her anywhere you want, in front or behind horses. We’ve been schooling her a lot behind horses and she’s probably better coming from off the pace. She has a better kick at the end.”

Trained by Michael Stidham for Al Shahania Racing, Pirate’s Trove won her debut at Arlington Park on May 31 and then shipped to Woodbine to take the Duchess S. on July 20.

Pirate’s Trove, bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm & M R Capital, has now earned $146,628. She is one of 10 stakes winners that have collected 12 stakes wins in 2014 for Speightstown.
