Paynter’s Renaisance Frolic rallies to third career stakes win

Renaisance Frolic was up just in time to win Saturday’s $75,000 Mr. Steele S. at Gulfstream Park, coming four-wide into the stretch to win the 1 1/16-mile turf race by a nose.

It was the third career stakes win for the son of Paynter, who has now earned $463,396 for Sir David Seale and trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr.

The outcome wasn’t decided until the final strides when Renaisance Frolic made a final push to get the wire just in front of Max K. O. after tracking several lengths off the pace for the first seven furlongs.

The final time was 1:40.87 on the firm turf.

Renaisance Frolic was bred in Kentucky by Stride Rite Racing Stable, Inc. His dam Frolic’s Appeal is a half-sister to $1.5 million earner and six-time graded stakes winner Smok’n Frolic.

Renaisance Frolic is the third stakes winner this month for Paynter, following Dolce Isa getting a black type win in Peru and Knicks Go romping in the July 2 Cornhusker H. (G3).
