Misty Mauve collected her first stakes win in Saturday’s $100,000 Dahlia S. at Laurel Park, pulling clear in the final furlong to take the one-mile race by 2 ¼-lengths.
The 4-year-old Paynter filly was making her stakes debut following an April 7 win over the same track and distance as the Dahlia. She broke well from post five and made her way to the inside behind a trio of leaders who made the first quarter-mile in :24.09. She held her spot around the turn before moving to the three path after straightening for home. She made her way to the front with a furlong to go and drew away from there for the win.
The final time for the one-turn mile on a good main track was 1:39.96.
Misty Mauve improved her record to 3-1-0 in eight starts and earnings to $118,620. She is owned by Designated Hitters Racing Inc. and was bred in Kentucky by Stewart and Larkin Armstrong. The bay filly’s dam Ticket To Seattle is a sister to two-time Grade 1 winner Tizway, while third dam Willamae was responsible for Grade 1 winners Will’s Way and Willa on the Move, as well as noted sire Citidancer.
Paynter is the sire of 23 lifetime black type winners and an additional 25 black type placers. He has three stakes winners this year and recent graded stakes-placed Positivity.
