Outwork colt rolls to 8 3/4-length Belmont MdSpWt win

Work Out completely dominated his competition Sunday at Belmont Park in a one-mile maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds, running up the margin in the stretch to win by 8 3/4-lengths.

The colt is the 11th First-Crop winner for Outwork, who is currently tied for the top spot on the Freshman sire list by stakes winners and is third by progeny earnings. He will have his first Breeders’ Cup starter Friday at Keeneland when the stakes-winning colt Outadore runs in either the Juvenile Turf Sprint or Juvenile Turf.

Work Out was making his first start at a mile after finishing second in a pair of sprints. After going to the lead right from the start, he controlled the pace from there on and was never headed as he completed the mile in 1:37.01 on a very sloppy racetrack.

The winner is owned by Robert Brooks and was bred by Dixie Farm.
