Outwork’s most accomplished runner to date, Outadore, added the Animal Kingdom S. to his resume with an impressive display in the 6 1/2-furlong contest for 3-year-olds at Turfway Park.
The gray or roan colt, who was making his 2021 debut, was in an early battle with Nicky Two Shoes, who got the lead out of the gate. Outadore, on the inside, soon collared his foe and assumed command before hitting the quarter-mile mark. He sped through a half in :45.03, when Gagetown made a bold move for the lead. Outadore held off the challenge through the stretch to win by a length in 1:16.82 on the synthetic surface.
“I think he’ll be better sprinting,” winning trainer Wesley Ward said. It’s a beautiful day and maybe the track is a little sticky. His goal has now turned to sprinting.”
Outadore’s most recent start prior to Saturday was in the Dec. 18 Springboard Mile, his only off-the-board finish to date. Prior to that, he won the $500,000 Juvenile Turf Sprint at Kentucky Downs and was third in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1). He is now 3-0-1 in five starts and has earned $469,997 for Breeze Easy LLC.
Bred by Deann and Greg Baer, Outadore is a half-brother to multiple stakes winner Piedi Bianchi and stakes winner Mind Reader.
Outwork is the leading Second-Crop sire of 2021 by stakes horses. The son of leading sire Uncle Mo stands at WinStar for $15,000 S&N.
