Top-10 First-Crop sire Speightster is now up to 14 winners after O Dogg put away the field in the stretch to win a six-furlong maiden race at Fair Grounds by 5 1/4-lengths on Thursday afternoon.
The dark bay juvenile, owned by J S. Stables LLC, took over the lead with a quarter-mile to run after some early traffic trouble, then drew off handily to win going away.
O Dogg was bred in Kentucky by CFP Thoroughbreds LLC. He is one of five winners out of Cap’s Legacy. Her stakes-winning dam In My Cap is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Trumpet’ Blare. This is also the family of Grade 1 winner and $3 million earner Albert The Great.
O Dogg is the third winner in the past six days for Speightster, whose top performers include stakes winners Dreaming of Drew and That Kenney Kid. Speightster has bred an average of 150 mares in his first four seasons at stud and will stand in 2021 for $10,000 S&N.
