New stakes winner for Bluegrass Cat

E B Ryder, owned by Miller Racing LLC, earned his first stakes victory in the $70,000 Frances A. Genter S. Saturday at Calder to become the eighth stakes winner of 2013 for Bluegrass Cat (VIDEO).

Bluegrass Cat is New York’s leading sire this year, with 105 winners and $4.7 million in progeny earnings.

With Jilver Chamafi aboard, E B Ryder, trained by Martin Wolfson, broke slowly out of the gate and was unhurried in the opening run. Coming out of the first turn, E B Ryder went outside three-wide, where he began rallying to take the lead at the sixteenth pole and broke away down the stretch for the win.

“The race was a little complicated,” said Chamafi. “I began to wait and kept waiting. I took him outside, I moved, and I said, ‘Well, I’ll go all the way outside.’ And I won the race.”

Three-year-old E B Ryder, bred in Florida by Farnsworth Stables LLC, is out of Back to Earth, whose dam Corridora Slew is a half-sister to Horse of the Year Cigar.
