Mr Paytience’s victory in a maiden special weight contest Sunday at Santa Anita Park was one of the most dynamic wins for a 2-year-old thus far this year.
The bay son of Paynter had to work for the lead in the first three furlongs, but once he hit the top of the stretch, he quickly moved away from the field and was under a hold late as he came under the wire a 7 1/4-length winner in :52.22 seconds for the 4 1/2-furlongs (VIDEO).
Mr Paytience is trained by Doug O’Neill for McShane Racing LLC. The winner is out of Kantstopdancin, a sister to La Canada S. (G2) winner Striking Dancer.
With 26 winners to date this year, Paynter is second among all Second-Crop Sires active in North America, and is one of only four Second-Crop sires with at least $1 million in progeny earnings in 2018.
