Sir Truebadour chalked up his first stakes win in Saturday’s $100,000 Bashford Manor S. (G3) at Churchill Downs with a front-running, two-length win.
The victory was the first stakes win for the 2-year-old son of More Than Ready, who broke his maiden in his May 17 debut at Churchill Downs, then was beaten just two lengths in the Tremont S. June 8 at Belmont Park.
Breaking from post four in the field of 12 juveniles, Sir Truebadour emerged in front after an early scramble for the lead. He flew through the first quarter-mile in :21.35 and a half in :45.63, then gamely held off all challenges to stop the timer in 1:12.77 for the six furlongs on a fast main track (VIDEO).
“We aimed to this race since he broke his maiden,” winning trainer Steve Asmussen said. “It’s great to win a graded stakes race.”
Asmussen trains the dark bay colt for Whispering Oaks Farm. The victory upped his earnings to $93,360.
Bred by Two Stamps Stables, Sir Truebadour sold for $300,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale. Sir Truebadour is out of Kivi and is a full brother to More Than Ready’s Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G2) winner and $1.8 million earner Regally Ready.
Sir Truebadour is More Than Ready’s 85th lifetime graded stakes winner and 188th overall stakes winner.
