Maiden Special Weight double for Sidney’s Candy

Sidney’s Candy tallied a pair of debut maiden special weight winners on Saturday, with Converge strolling to a 3 1/2-length win on the Belmont Park turf, while won by four lengths in front-running style at Gulfstream Park.

Converge kicked the “Sidney double” off with a thrilling stretch run, coming from eighth after a half-mile to win going away for trainer Chad Brown and owner Paul Pompa, Jr. (VIDEO).

The bay colt is out of the multiple graded winner Atlantic Ocean. Converge sold for $240,000 at the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

Barbarenda controlled things from the outset of her five-furlong contest, maintaining a half-length lead until the top of the stretch, when she pulled away from the bulky field of 13 to score with authority (VIDEO).

Barbarenda is out of two-time stakes winner Renda and is a half-sister to Rock Fall, winner of the Alfred G. Vanderbilt (G1) and True North S. (G2). She is owned by Barbara Curtis, Michael Dubb and Highclere America.

Sidney’s Candy, a top 15 First-Crop sire, has had a strong Keeneland September sale this year as well, with his progeny going for an average of $201,250 through the first five days of the sale.
