Constitution’s three-time graded stakes winning filly Laura’s Light scored an emphatic victory in the $200,000 Ouija Board Distaff S. at Lone Star Park on Memorial Day, coasting to a 4 3/4-length victory in the one-mile race that was moved from the turf to the main track due to inclement weather.
Just 30 minutes prior to the filly’s win, Constitution got his first stakes winner on the card when the 3-year-old colt Warrant won the $300,000 Texas Derby. Laura’s Light had earned her prior stakes wins on the turf, and was making her first lifetime traditional dirt start on Monday.
Raven’s Cry (IRE) was the pacesetter early on, with Laura’s Light tracking her in second. Florent Geroux asked the bay filly for her run outside the quarter-pole, and she responded immediately to take command. When the win was assured in deep stretch, Geroux let his mount coast under the wire in 1:38.07 on the sloppy racetrack.
Laura’s Light now has five stakes wins and seven wins overall in 12 starts. She has earned $471,770 for owner Gary Barber. Bred in Kentucky by Golden Pedigree, Laura’s Light is a half-sister to stakes winner Barry Lee.
