Distorted Humor’s Laugh Track became his sire’s 105th black-type winner and 48th Graded stakes winner by winning Sunday’s $156,000 Vigil S. (G3) at Woodbine. The 105 black-type winners for Distorted Humor ranks him tops in North America among active, non-shuttling sires.
Bred by WinStar Farm, and co-owned along with Gary Barber, Laugh Track is also one of 15 stakes horses in 2013 for Distorted Humor.
Ridden by Luis Contreras, Laugh Track, broke third in the four-field, with champion Essence Hit Man, a son of WinStar stallion Speightstown, leading the way through early fractions :23.17 and :45.02. Laugh Track was still some four lengths back with a furlong to run, but a powerful run in deep stretch netted the 4-year-old a a half-length score over Essence Hit Man in a swift 1:21.85 for the seven furlongs.
“I just wanted to stay where the horse wants to be and be patient,” said Contreras. “He (Essence Hit Man) moved a little early at the quarter pole and that gave me the opportunity to close at the end.”
“We got him from Norman Casse (trainer Mark Casse’s son) at Churchill (Downs, where Laugh Track started in last month’s Grade 2 Alysheba S.), and he said the horse had been training really well down there,” added assistant trainer David Adams. “We targeted this race all along and thought he had a good shot.”
Laugh Track banked $94,500 in victory, upping his career total to $243,567, while improving his record to 4-2-1 from eight career starts. Laugh Track was bred from the Touch Gold mare Flaming Heart, a two-time stakes winner of $245,961.
