A yearling filly by Laoban brought winning bid of $175,000 as the final horse in the ring during Wednesday’s closing session of the OBS Winter Mixed Sale, making her the top-priced horse during the two-day auction.
Consigned by McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds, agent, hip No. 805 went to Sand Hill Stables.
Bred by the late Kenneth LeJeune, the bay filly is out of multiple stakes-placed Best Reward, who has already produced a pair of multiple winners in her own right.
Laoban had an exceptional year in 2020 with his first crop of runners. He finished ranked second on the Freshman Sire list with progeny earnings of over $1.5 million. He is the sire of Alcibiades S. (G1) winner Simply Ravishing and Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) winner Keepmeinmind. Laoban has gotten off to a hot start in 2021 as well, and is currently atop the Second-Crop Sire list with five winners.
